Position Description

The Junior Estimator prepares estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. He/she must also be thorough and apt in managing relationships with key persons. The goal is to provide detailed reports so the company can make informed decisions that will enhance profitability and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the project and its requirements
  • Determine the key variables that will influence costs
  • Gather first-hand information from sites, warehouses, suppliers or other sources
  • Prepare written estimates
  • Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, production and installation times, etc
  • Use software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting
  • Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors
  • Perform risk analysis
  • Create and submit estimate reports and proposals to company President for review
  • Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, etc.)
  • Provide consultation on planning (schedules, labor needs, etc.)

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Estimator or similar position is desirable
  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles
  • Exquisite math and IT ability
  • Familiar with software (Planswift)
  • Outstanding communications and negotiation abilities
  • Thoroughness and reliability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) an asset
  • Must have own vehicle and driver’s license
